Clinical Update

The proof of concept study in Gabon has shown the combination of fosmidomycin and piperaquine to be highly efficacious in the treatment of acute uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in adults and children aged one to fourteen years with the achievement of 100% cure rates in all age groups.

The combination has also proved to be exceptionally well tolerated and safe resulting in the early resolution of symptoms.

Further studies of the combination in children aged one to five years of age, as the target population in sub-Saharan Africa, are proposed with the aim of achieving a reduction in the dose of fosmidomycin within the constraint of a once daily regimen administered over three days.
